The Commission consults on the next generation Internet (NGI?)


The Commission has published a Communication on future networks and the internet as well as a public consultation on the early challenges of the "Internet of Things" that adresses issues such as identification and sensing technologies, and related privacy and spectrum issues. The Commission also published a new broadband performance index that compares broadband performances across members States based on key measures such as broadband speed, competition, coverage but also prices. Responses, in pre-determined format (and with a maximum of 10 pages) must be sent to the Commission by 28th November 2008.
On this basis, the Commission aims at publishing a Communication in 2009 that will focus on architectures, control of critical infrastructures, emerging applications, security, privacy and data protection, spectrum management, regulations and standards, & broader socio-economic aspects of the "Internet of things".
