EU Telecoms Ministers confirmed today that the BEREC Office will be based in Riga, Latvia.
At the last IEJE conference (see post below for the slides), the BEREC Chairman pointed out that until this decision was made, recruiting staff was a particular challenge for BEREC as people did not know where they will be working. Yet, it remains to be seen whether Riga will attract many applicants.
On a side note, it seems that obtaining the seat of an agency becomes one of the main goal of Member States' diplomatic agendas. It could be questioned whether, apart from supporting the airlines industry, such dispertion of agencies across Europe facilitate Europe's efficiency and help reducing its costs...
