Dispute in Indiana
A judge in Indiana has ordered the local prosecutor to let indigents attend the shoplifting class without paying the $230 fee because the program, as it now stands, discriminates along class lines. At least one prosecutor stands in dissent: "Anyone who is motivated can pay the fee. When you have a judge claiming that all a person has to do is claim indigency and he doesn't have to pay, you open the floodgates."
